OAK BROOK, IL— Krusinski Construction Company has completed a multi-million dollar renovation and modernization program for ABB Robotics, a leading international technology firm represented by Stream Realty Partners. The project at 1250 Brown Road in Auburn Hills, MI, represents the first assignment between Krusinski Construction and ABB Robotics. ABB has occupied the building for more than 30 years.
Critical elements of the phased construction program at ABB’s 542,800-square-foot robotics facility include:
-
-
-
- the construction of a new, state-of-the-art customer experience center,
- an expansion for a new manufacturing line along with approximately 230,000 square feet of warehouse upgrades
- a modernization of ABB’s 40,000-square-foot office space area.
- the replacement of the entry canopy and the refinishing of the exterior paint

“We are excited to have worked with Stream Realty Partners and ABB Robotics on this vital project, designed to improve workplace efficiency and productivity while creating a dynamic, state-of-the-art customer experience center,” said Jeff Krusinski, President and CEO of Krusinski Construction Company.
Highlights of the comprehensive project, which occurred in multiple phases while the facility remained fully operational, include:
-
-
- Phase 1. This phase focused on the 230,000-square-foot manufacturing area and included a comprehensive space reconfiguration. The reconfiguration improves manufacturing capacity and internal efficiencies. The work required the demolition of existing walls and mezzanines, the addition of new power feeds, and a relocation of the spot weld demonstration function. Existing overhead lights throughout were upgraded to LED as part of ABB’s to align with ABB’s sustainability goal of being carbon net zero by 2050.
- Phase 2. The two story, 40,000-square-foot office space on the east side of the property was modernized and improved to become a more inviting modern workplace environment, which enhances connectivity and encourages productivity and collaboration among employees. Elements of this phase included a complete redesign and refresh of the space, incorporating glass walls into the conference rooms, new modern furniture and finishes, and LED lighting throughout the office space, restrooms and breakrooms.
- Phase 3. One of the centerpieces of the entire ABB project was creating a new customer experience center in a 40,000-square-foot portion of the property that was previously office space. The center, equipped with a training lab, training classrooms, a virtual reality lab, a robot studio, and customer breakout rooms, allows ABB to showcase its equipment to visiting clients and prospective customers. Other elements of this space, including a new lobby, café, and large multi-purpose room for company gatherings, were reimagined and modernized to align with the company’s overall image as a global innovation firm.
- Phase 4. The project's final phase for ABB included various exterior improvements, including a new main entry canopy, a new employee break area, and the repainting of the exterior to match current brand standards
